Ferrari may have sold 80 examples of his stupidity called Aperta SA before the world premiere of the Roadster in the Paris International Motor Show on 30 September, but that has not deterred the company from launching an online configurator for the rest of world to see.

Unfortunately, the setup is preset, which means they're only allowed to check the five settings available and not played with paint schemes and interior design, so unless you're a Photoshop wizard, there goes your dream of creating a lime-green Aperta SA, pink seats.

This is the brand new Peugeot RCZ 2010, France's answer to Audi TT! Ready to be presented at the Frankfurt motor this year, the new vehicle promises to be a real success for Peugeot,we have no alternative to the TT. Mazda is commencing sales of the 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmission models and accepting orders for the new 6-speed automatic transmission (AT) version from today. The 6-speed AT RX-8 goes on sale in mid-October 2006.

Since sales began in April 2003, the RX-8 has received widespread acclaim as a unique sports car powered by a rotary engine, in which four adults can ride comfortably.

The newly-adopted 6-speed AT model delivers reassuringly smooth acceleration and improved noise reduction at high speeds. Toyota has green lit plans to offer solar panels on its popular Prius hybrid vehicle. The solar panel option will be available on the high-end Prius model when it receives a redesign in 2009. Strangely, the Japanese business newspaper also reports that the power generated by the solar panels will be used for the air conditioning system. The solar panels are being manufactured by Kyocera Corp. Previously, Gizmodo has covered some DIY solar panel options for the Prius, but the news today confirms that an official offering is now forthcoming from Toyota.

The "news" today was also about how the Touareg would serve as precursor to Porsche's Cayenne SUV. But as Porsche's engineers told me last year, a hybrid version of the Cayenne has been planned for quite some time. It would make sense though for the Touareg to turn hybrid based on the Cayenne since both vehicles share the same platform (a lot of people don't like to hear that after spending so much money on the Cayenne). Either way, I would expect the Touareg to be Volkswagen's debut hybrid model, whenever that will be.

BMW pulled somewhat of a Shanghai Surprise with its latest creation, a Gran Turismo-styled vehicle called the Concept CS, which the automaker previewed in advance of its Shanghai Motor Show debut later today in Shanghai.

Clearly, there's plenty of Bangle in the new design, with flame surfacing and a version of the now famous rear end treatment, along with some heritage features such as the return of the 'shark nose' front end. Check out the cut line above the rear fenders, there's a little Dodge Charger in there. BMW says the CS sports potential new design themes which the automaker says signal the next step in what its design language could look like. The CS takes the four-door coupe approach with its greenhouse. With the success Mercedes-Benz CLS, that shouldn't be surprising.

Honda is currently prepping a new performance version of the Civic sedan that’s set for release in the Japan this September. Based on the already sporty Type R, the new Honda Civic Mugen RR was transformed after undergoing a power upgrade and weight reduction program in collaboration with the help of its Mugen racing division.

Power is up 15hp over the standard Type R, producing 240hp at 8,000rpm and 160lb-ft at 7,000 revs. The jump comes from modifications to the intake system and new cams as well as high-flow exhaust. Weight has been cut back with the replacement of some panels with carbon-fiber and aluminum, down 10kg once again over the standard Type R.

Other enhancements include Bridgestone Potenza tires designed specifically for the Mugen RR, a new sports suspension and uprated brakes. Inside, the car gets Recaro bucket seats with unique Mugen RR labeling. Only 300 cars will be produced, and all will be limited to Honda’s Milan Red finish.

GM just dropped high resolution images of the upcoming Chevy Cruze small four-door on us in advance of its Paris Motor Show unveil later this year. At first glance, we're quite impressed. The new car gets a striking design which mixes smooth planes and sharp lines for a surprisingly handsome design. Oddly, the tail lights on the Cruze mimic the camouflage-ensconced headlights on the upcoming Chevy Equinox while also receiving the new bold front end from the Chevy Malibu. If this is the direction GM's small cars are going, we've gotta say, our interest is piqued. But that's just the design. We're also told the new 2011 Chevy Cruze will get three engines when it launches in Europe in March of 2009; a 16-valve, 1.6-liter (112 hp) and 1.8-liter (140 hp) gasoline engine, plus a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel (150 HP).
